Series Fare Flights — What a Series Fare Means and How to Book

A series fare is a flight fare on seats bought in bulk across a series of dates, for example a fixed number of seats on the same flight every week for a season, at one agreed price. Series fare flights are the inventory behind most fixed departure seats: each date sells from its own small allocation on a confirmed airline PNR, at a price set when the seats were bought.

What series fare means in practice

• The seats are bought ahead of time for a run of dates on a set flight, not one booking at a time.
• The price is agreed when the seats are bought, so it does not follow the airline's daily fare changes.
• Each date has a limited number of seats, shown on the page. When they are sold, that date closes.
• The seats already sit on a confirmed PNR, so you take a seat that is already held rather than sending a request.
• After payment, the ticket is issued against that PNR and emailed to you.

Series fare vs normal fare vs group fare

• A series fare is bought in bulk across many dates and sold seat by seat to anyone, at a set price.
• A normal fare is the airline's live price. It moves with demand and usually has more flexible change and refund options.
• A group fare is quoted on request for one booking of 10 or more passengers on one date, and is confirmed only after the airline accepts the request.

On peak dates a series fare is often the cheapest of the three, but not always, so compare before you pay.

Series fare rules to know

• Series fares are usually non-refundable.
• Name changes and date changes are usually not allowed, or are limited and chargeable.
• Baggage depends on the airline and the fare and is shown on each fare.
• Names must match the passport or ID exactly.
• The airline can still reschedule or cancel the flight. If that happens, we contact you and help you rebook or claim a refund under the airline's rules.

Which airlines have series fares?

Series fare seats on our pages come from IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air, SpiceJet and Flydubai. An airline appears only when it has seats on that route and date, so the list changes from day to day. Domestic series fares cover busy routes from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru; international series fares run mostly to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Male, Bangkok, Phuket, Bali and Kuala Lumpur. Gulf routes such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi or Hyderabad to Dubai tend to have series seats on many dates, because demand there is steady all year. Leisure routes to Bali or Phuket usually have them around holiday seasons.

How to book a series fare flight ticket

1. Search your route and date, or open a fixed departure route page.
2. Choose the Special Fixed Departure price; use Show all fares to see normal fares on the same day.
3. Read the seats left, baggage and fare rules.
4. Enter traveller details exactly as on the passport or ID.
5. Pay online through the payment gateway. The ticket is issued against the confirmed PNR and emailed.

Is a series fare right for your trip?

A series fare suits travellers whose date is firm, especially for school holidays, festivals and long weekends when live fares rise quickly. It suits you less if there is a real chance you will cancel or change, because the rules are strict. In that case a normal fare with flexible terms may be worth the difference.

Series fares for travel agents

Registered travel agents see net series fares on the same inventory, add their own markup, book for their customers and pay from a wallet. Registration is free, and a KYC check is done before the account is activated.
